A fan favorite in Baltimore, Butler became expendable when Breshad Perriman got healthy and Steve Smith Sr. came off PUP. The Ravens are also rolling with Kamar Aiken, Mike Wallace, and fourth-round pick Chris Moore on the 53.

The Bucs are looking for depth at wide receiver with Cecil Shorts battling a hamstring injury. Butler caught 31 passes for 363 yards in eight games for Baltimore last season. He won’t move the needle much.

WR Jeremy Ross was released in a corresponding roster move. The Jets need bodies at receiver with Eric Decker and Jalin Marshall both battling shoulder injuries. Butler caught 31 passes in eight games for the Ravens last season, but had yet to be active for the Bucs.

It may speak to concern about the health of Travis Benjamin (PCL).

He joined the Chargers about halfway through last season, playing 18 offensive snaps over four games. Butler’s next team will be his fifth in four seasons.

A journeyman former UDFA, 31 of Butler’s 33 career receptions came in 2015 with the Ravens. He’ll compete for one of the Bills’ final roster spots.

Ravens receivers coach Bobby Engram shared the same sentiment, describing Butler’s play as “unbelievable.” Butler spent his rookie season sidelined by a shoulder injury. At 6'2/224, 24-year-old Butler has size to create mismatches in the slot. He’s still a major long shot for any fantasy relevance.

An UDFA out of Tennessee-Martin, Butler is a big (6-2, 218) possession receiver that lacks the speed to threaten a defense deep. Butler will compete with fellow rookie Michael Campanaro, Deonte Thompson, and LaQuan Williams in camp.

A second-year undrafted free agent out of small-school Tennessee-Martin, Butler has drawn raves from Joe Flacco and WRs coach Bobby Engram. Per Hensley, Butler caught “nearly every pass thrown his way” this spring. Butler was a workout warrior last year, as well, before missing the entire season with a shoulder injury.

Butler hauled in 10 catches for 76 yards during the preseason but couldn’t climb higher than seventh on the team’s depth chart. The Ravens will enter Week 1 with a receiving corps of Steve Smith Sr., Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman, Marlon Brown, Michael Campanaro and Darren Waller.
