Sherfy made 14 relief appearances last year between the Dodgers and Giants and will look to rebuild his value in the independent Atlantic League this season. The 30-year-old righty was removed from Los Angeles’ 40-man roster back in November and opted to elect free agency.

Sherfy has been removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster and has the option to elect free agency rather than accept the outright minor-league assignment. The 29-year-old righty was scooped up off waivers from the division-rival Giants in mid-July but wound up only pitching in four games before his season ended due to right elbow inflammation.

Sherfy was just placed on the IL last week, so the move here rules him out until late September. If his season is over, he finishes with a 4.20 ERA in 15 innings for the Giants and Dodgers.

Sherfy was just claimed off waivers before the All-Star break and now will be out at least nine days with the inflammation. Mitch White is back up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take his place on the roster.

Sherfy was designated for assignment by the Giants last week and will remain in the NL West. The 29-year-old righty has recorded a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 9/4 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings at the major-league level this season. He’ll give the Dodgers overtaxed bullpen some additional depth heading into the second half.

The Giants needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Tyler Beede’s return and Sherfy drew the short straw. The 29-year-old has pitched decently in 10 appearances with the big league club this season, posting a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 9/4 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings. There’s a chance he could attract interest on waivers.

Sherfy was added to the 40-man roster on Sunday but had to pass through MLB’s COVID-19 protocols after spending the last few weeks pitching for Team USA in Olympic qualifiers. The 29-year-old right-hander will be available out of the Giants’ bullpen on Wednesday afternoon against the Rangers.

Sherfy posted a 5.89 ERA in 18 1/3 innings of relief last summer with the Diamondbacks before getting released in mid-August. The 29-year-old right-hander will be a bullpen depth piece for San Francisco in 2021.

Sherfy was part of the D-backs’ 60-man player pool and had been working out at the team’s alternate training site. Perhaps he requested the release. The 28-year-old right-hander struggled to a 5.89 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 18 1/3 innings last season out of the Arizona bullpen, though his career ERA (in 45 1/3 innings) is 2.98.

Sherfy was designated for assignment by the D-backs last Thursday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 5.89 ERA over 18 1/3 innings out of the Arizona bullpen in 2019.
