Osich was designated for assignment earlier this week after the Reds picked up righty Mychal Givens from the Rockies in a trade. The 32-year-old left-hander refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville, and should be able to latch on with a new organization rather quickly for the remainder of the regular season.

This move clears out a roster spot for reliever Mychal Givens, who was acquired from the Rockies on Wednesday. Osich, 32, had pitched to a 5.02 ERA in 14 1/3 innings this season with Cincinnati.

The Reds didn’t want to use Heath Hembree today and they had already gone through most of the pen before the ninth, so Osich got an opportunity in just his 12th appearance for the team and retired the Brewers in order., He’s allowed just one run in 10 1/3 innings since being called up. The save today came in his 246th appearance since he debuted with the Giants in 2015.

Osich has appeared in 15 games for Louisville and posted a 5.40 ERA. He’ll likely operate in low-leverage situations with the Reds while he’s with the club.

Osich struggled to a 6.38 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 18 1/3 innings of relief this past season between the Red Sox and Cubs. The 32-year-old will function as left-handed bullpen depth for Cincinnati heading into 2021.

The lefty reliever cleared waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster. Osich posted an ugly 6.38 ERA in 18 1/3 innings this season.

This move clears a Wild Card Series roster spot for Josh Phegley, who will serve as the Cubs’ emergency third catcher. Osich, 32, struggled to a 6.38 ERA in 18 1/3 innings this summer between Boston and Chicago.

Osich has allowed six runs -- three earned -- over 2 2/3 innings (four relief appearances) since being acquired from the Red Sox at the August 31 trade deadline in exchange for a PTBNL.

The Cubs just got Andrew Chafin, too, but he’s going to be unavailable for a couple of more weeks. Osich will get a chance right away, though his struggles against righties, combined with the new three-batter minimum, will make it difficult for him to help a contender. He’s given up six homers and posted a 5.74 ERA in 15 2/3 innings this year. Last season, he allowed 15 homers on his way to a 4.66 ERA in 67 2/3 innings for the White Sox.

Relievers like Josh Osich and Matt Barnes are also being discussed. Pillar seems like a logical name to be moved by Monday’s deadline. With a pair of two-hit games over the weekend, he’s slashing .274/.325/.470 with four homers through 30 games this season.
