Guerra was designated for assignment earlier this week to free up a 40-man roster spot. The 36-year-old righty recorded an inflated 6.06 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 61/46 K/BB ratio across 65 1/3 innings this past season. He’ll likely have to settle for a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training this offseason.

This move opens up a roster spot for Noah Syndergaard, who was signed to a one-year, $21 million free agent contract on Tuesday. Guerra posted an ugly 6.06 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, and 61/46 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings for the Halos in 2021, working mostly in relief. He turns 37 years old in January.

The 36-year-old will work out of the bullpen for the Angels regular-season finale on Sunday. Guerra posted a 6.06 ERA and 1.73 this season over 65 1/3 innings with 61 strikeouts.

Guerra ended up missing just over the minimum amount of days necessary to stay on the injured list. The right-hander will be a middle-innings option for the Angels. Dillon Peters was sent down in a corresponding transaction.

Guerra suffered the injury while serving as an opener for the Angels on Monday night against the Astros. There is no timetable at this point for the veteran right-hander’s return to the active roster.

Guerra has gone more than two innings in relief four times already this season, so he’s pretty stretched out. José Suarez is available for “bulk” duty.

Guerra has been added to the Angels’ 40-man roster and will pitch out of the bullpen to begin the year. The veteran right-hander has two scoreless appearances under his belt this spring and has posted a 3.44 ERA in 97 appearances as a full-time reliever over the past two seasons. He should come in handy for Joe Maddon.

Guerra was delayed for two weeks because of visa issues, but he’ll be ready to compete for a bullpen job as soon as he makes it through the COVID-19 intake testing process. The veteran right-hander signed a minor league deal with the Angels in January after posting a 3.04 ERA over 23 2/3 innings last year with Arizona.

The 35-year-old right-hander was released by the Diamondbacks in November after posting a 3.04 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 21/15 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings during the 2020 season. Since moving to the bullpen in 2019, he has compiled a 3.44 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 107 1/3 innings in 97 appearances. He should have a decent shot at landing a middle relief role in the club’s Opening Day bullpen.
