Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts played just 19-of-59 snaps in Week 3.
Shorts’ playing time was mostly limited to the run-heavy personnel group with just one receiver on the field. It was Kevin Elliott, not Shorts or Mike Thomas, who played 40 snaps once Laurent Robinson went down with a concussion. Shorts may be improving, but he’s still unworthy of a roster spot in fantasy leagues.

Kevin Elliott was inserted into the lineup Sunday following Laurent Robinson’s first-half concussion.
Elliot is an undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M that made the 53-man roster with an impressive training camp. On Sunday, he posted two catches for 24 yards on four targets. The Jags chose to keep Mike Thomas and Cecil Shorts inside.

Cecil Shorts is no longer feeling concussion symptoms and has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.
He was officially “limited” on Wednesday. Barring a setback in practice this week, Shorts will resume his role as Chad Henne’s No. 1 wideout for Sunday’s game in Miami. In seven games since the Jags’ Week 6 bye, he’s averaged 5.0 catches for 88.4 yards and has scored five touchdowns. He’ll be squarely on the WR3 radar this week and his return also injects some life into Chad Henne’s QB2 prospects. Without Shorts against the Jets last week, the Jags could muster just 168 net passing yards.

    Jaguars waived WR Kevin Elliott.
The undrafted rookie’s fall from graces was swift. Elliott dropped two passes (and arguably a third) while committing a penalty against the Jets last week. He had tumbled to sixth receiver in Wednesday’s practice. Jordan Shipley is locked into the No. 3 role. The Jags promoted OL Austin Pasztor from the practice squad to take Elliott’s roster spot.

Bills promoted WR Kevin Elliott from their practice squad.
Undrafted out of Florida A&M, Elliott had an unsuccessful cup of coffee on the Jaguars’ active roster earlier this year, struggling with drops and managing 108 yards on ten receptions. The Bills will carry him on their offseason roster.

Cecil Shorts (concussion) missed this third consecutive practice on Friday.
Shorts passed his baseline test on Monday, but was still experience symptoms at mid-week. At this point, fantasy owners can’t rely on him as a Week 14 option versus the Jets. No Jaguars player this season has missed Friday’s practice and gone on to play on Sunday. With Antonio Cromartie shadowing Justin Blackmon, look for Marcedes Lewis to take on a bigger role. Kevin Elliott and Jordan Shipley are candidates for increased snaps with Shorts’ status in doubt.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (concussion) and RB Rashad Jennings (concussion) have been ruled out for Week 14 versus the Jets.
It was expected. No Jaguars player has gone on to play Sunday after missing Friday’s practice. Shorts was still experiencing symptoms at mid-week, which means he’s no sure bet to return for Week 15 at Miami. We suspect Kevin Elliott will draw the start opposite Justin Blackmon with Jordan Shipley staying in the slot. Elliott is not a viable flex option for the fantasy playoffs. Montell Owens will handle lead-back duties with Jennings out.

Kevin Elliott is expected to draw the start opposite Justin Blackmon with Cecil Shorts (concussion) ruled out for Week 14.
Undrafted out of Florida A&M, Elliott has seven receptions for 70 yards for the Jags this season. While he’s a good bet to draw 6-8 targets with Antonio Cromartie shadowing Justin Blackmon, Elliott has shown nothing to suggest fantasy owners should roll the dice against a Jets defense allowing the 27th-most points to wide receivers.

Following Sunday’s loss to the Jets, coach Mike Mularkey called out WR Kevin Elliott for drops.
Elliott, an undrafted rookie starting in place of Cecil Shorts (concussion), had just three catches on 10 targets. He had two glaring drops and stepped out of bounds before a catch on the Jags’ final drive. “Kevin has had too many drops,” Mularkey said. “He hasn’t had as many opportunities as some of these other guys, but he has had drops. Those are uncontested plays that he should make and I know he knows he should make.”

The Jaguars did not provide an update on Cecil Shorts’ (concussion) status Monday.
Shorts’ status for Week 15 is completely up in the air. He was reportedly medically cleared last week, but will need to be symptom-free in order to practice Wednesday. Without their electric playmaker against the Jets last week, the Jags could muster just 168 net passing yards and two touchdowns. Backup Kevin Elliot posted an ugly 3/38/0 line on 10 targets.
