The 32-year-old right-hander hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2016 season. Since then, he has bounced around from the minor leagues, the Korea Baseball Organization, a pair of independent leagues and the Mexican Winter League. He spent the 2022 season in the CPBL, posting a 3.54 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 59/32 K/BB ratio over 61 innings. Perhaps another solid season there will be the springboard he needs to return stateside.

Sampson inked a minor-league deal with the White Sox back in April. The 30-year-old righty hasn’t appeared in the major leagues since the 2016 campaign.

Sampson posted a 5.60 ERA over 31 appearances -- 14 starts -- for the Reds from 2015-16 but spent last season in Korea. He’s merely organizational depth.

The right-hander had a 3.57 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A this season, striking out 135 in 141 1/3 innings. There’s a chance the 22-year-old makes his debut with the Padres as early as 2014. He’ll now be protected from the Rule 5 Draft in December.

Making his first start of the season after seven relief appearances, Sampson struck out six and walked two while allowing four base hits. He has a 4.79 ERA with 22 strikeouts and a whopping 16 walks in 20 2/3 innings. Despite the solid effort in tonight’s spot start, Sampson is not a recommended pitcher to add to your team.

Sampson holds a 3.99 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 30/20 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings for the Reds this season. He’ll work in mop-up duty.

He’ll take JJ Hoover’s spot on the active roster. Sampson has made four appearances with the Reds this season and owns a 2.06 ERA and 58/19 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings in Triple-A. He’ll operate in middle relief.

Sampson has registered a 3.99 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 30/20 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings out of the Reds bullpen this season. He should rejoin the bullpen once rosters expand for September.

Sampson’s second stint in the big leagues this year didn’t go much better than his first. He scattered four hits, two runs and three walks across four innings against the Indians earlier this week. The right-hander should continue to yo-yo between Louisville and Cincinnati.
