49ers OC Greg Roman praised undrafted rookie QB Kory Faulkner on Wednesday, saying, “he’s the kind of guy at some point in his career, probably turn the keys over to him.”
Faulkner (6-foot-3, 229) received $3,000 guaranteed upon signing with the 49ers following May’s draft. At Southern Illinois, he finished fourth in school history with 5,347 passing yards and tied for fifth with 34 touchdowns. Faulkner missed action as a senior with a broken finger and was sacked 24 times in eight starts. “He had no offensive line in college,” Roman said. “He can throw under duress. Let me tell you that.” Faulkner may be ticketed for the practice squad.
