Falcons signed Mississippi State S Marcus Murphy.
Murphy (5'11/198) never put a full season together at Mississippi State. Murphy missed most of 2019 after violating team rules, then opted out of the back half of the 2020 season as the team fell apart. In turn, Murphy’s production is middling, earning just two INTs and two passes defended over those two seasons. Murphy played a bit from both safety alignments, showing off adequate range to cover ground in a timely manner. However, Murphy plays with a soft trigger, leading him into many scenarios where he plays mentally slower than he should. Tackling, in particular, is an issue for Murphy because he seldom keeps his feet moving to drive through ball carriers, perhaps because he does not trust his angles. He may struggle to play near the line of scrimmage in the NFL. Murphy is a depth/rotational player with little starting upside.
