Hill

Hill (5-foot-10, 210) earned 2012 Player of the Year honors in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and rushed for 4,969 yards with 35 touchdowns in his college career. He added 93 receptions. Hill ran forty times of 4.59 and 4.60 at his Pro Day before the draft. Hill will try to latch on as a special teams player with the Chargers as a rookie.

It could be a sign the Pack expect at least one of Eddie Lacy (concussion) and James Starks (knee) to miss Week 5. An undrafted free agent out of small-school Missouri Western State, Hill averaged just 2.9 yards on 21 preseason carries for the Chargers.

Hill led Division II in rushing last season at Missouri Western State, but ran slow forty times. He lost out to Fozzy Whittaker for one of the final running back jobs in San Diego. Hill averaged 2.9 YPC on 21 preseason totes.

Hill mixed it up with police who were trying to break up a bar fight. The Bucs have issued a statement saying they’re aware of the situation. An undrafted rookie out of small-school Missouri Western, Hill carried the ball nine times for 23 yards in six games for the Bucs. Signed through 2015, he’ll compete for a spot on special teams next season as long as his arrest doesn’t cost him his roster spot.

A 2013 undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western, Hill has now been cut by the Packers, Chargers, and Bucs. Despite myriad injuries in Tampa’s 2013 backfield, Hill only earned nine carries as a rookie, gaining 23 yards behind Bobby Rainey. Hill ran a 4.60 forty at 5'10/209 at his Pro Day last March.

A “name” undrafted free agent last season, Hill was plucked off the Packers’ practice squad by the Bucs in November. He remained on the 53-man roster through the end of the season, but was waived after getting arrested for disorderly conduct in January. Hill carried the ball nine times for 23 yards as a rookie. He’ll compete for a job on special teams and No. 4 running back duties in camp.

Hill has been tried out by or practiced with seemingly countless NFL teams since going undrafted out of Missouri State in 2013. Malena stands 5-foot-8 and 194 pounds. Including Lache Seastrunk, the Cowboys seemingly are making it a point to sign running backs who have no realistic chance at threatening for in-season carries. It’s an outward show of faith in Joseph Randle, and to a lesser extent, even, injured Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar.

Hill spent time with the Redskins this offseason. He has not had an NFL carry since 2013. Malena was with the Cowboys during training camp last summer and spent time on the Texans’ practice squad last year. Bauman spent last year on the Cardinals’ practice squad.

The most notable part of this transaction is that the Redskins released the info to their season ticket holders before the media. It’s part of their push to do something for their fans as wins on the field have been few and far between. Hill hasn’t recorded an NFL carry since 2013 while with the Bucs.
