Athletics general manager Billy Beane said new acquisition Miles Head will be moved from first to third base.
Acquired in the Andrew Bailey trade, Head, 20, played nine games at the hot corner in 2009 back in Rookie Ball but was quickly moved to first base for his first full season and remained there until now. The owner of a .274/.351/.446 career batting line in 204 minor league games, Head could begin the season at Double-A but is a ways away from contributing for the A’s.

Athletics acquired 3B Miles Head, RHP Raul Alcantara and OF Josh Reddick from the Red Sox for RHP Andrew Bailey and OF Ryan Sweeney.
Head was selected by the Red Sox in the 26th round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft. Only 20 years old, he posted a decent .299/.372/.515 batting line with 22 home runs and 82 RBI in 557 plate appearances this past season at two different levels of Single-A. If he continues that kind of pace at Double-A, there will be reason for excitement.

Head, 23, is coming off back-to-back injury-plagued seasons in the minors. He was acquired from the Red Sox in the Josh Reddick deal.
