Farris

Farris has started three games in Triple-A this season, but he has been used only as a reliever with the Angels. He will likely continue to serve a multi-inning relief role, but he could be an option in the rotation if there is an injury or regression for a pitcher like Walbert Urena.

Farris pitched well Monday with 1 2/3 scoreless frames, but his reward for throwing multiple innings is a demotion to Triple-A. Sam Aldegheri represents the fresh arm needed for the Los Angeles bullpen, and Farris should be back with the Halos in the coming weeks.

Farris provides the Angels with some additional long relief depth heading into Monday’s game against the Braves with starter Ryan Johnson hitting the injured list. The 25-year-old made five spot starts for Los Angeles last year, posting a bloated 6.66 ERA across 24 1/3 innings of work.

Farris allowed 12 runs on 12 hits in six innings this spring while striking out eight and walking two. He did have a solid season in Double-A last year, so he will look to settle in at Triple-A and prove himself worthy of making his MLB debut this season.

Farris gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five. The 24-year-old impressed with three earned runs allowed in his first two starts, but has since faltered with 15 earned runs allowed over his last three starts. Farris figures to be in the mix for a spot at the back of the Angels’ rotation next spring.

If the Angels were more concerned about winning, they wouldn’t have sent Farris back out to face Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez for a third time tonight. Farris gave up a single to Raleigh and then walked both Rodríguez and Jorge Polanco before finally getting the hook. Chase Silseth took over and managed to strand one of the three runners while getting three outs. Josh Naylor helped a bunch there, getting doubled off first on a fly to right to end the frame. Farris fell to 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA through three starts. He’s due to make his next start in Coors Field against the Rockies.

Farris struck out four batters on the afternoon while allowing one free pass. Both of the runs scored against him came on solo home runs — one by Willie MacIver in the third inning and another from Tyler Soderstrom leading off the seventh inning. Farris got 13 swings and misses on just 76 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He exited with a 3-2 lead and in line for a victory but the Athletics’ bullpen couldn’t hang on for him. He’ll bring a pristine 2.45 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and a 7/3 K/BB ratio (11 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Mariners in Seattle.

The 24-year-old southpaw struck out three batters on the night while issuing a pair of walks. The Royals scratched out a run against him on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino in the third inning, but that was the extent of the damage done against him. The Angels then pushed a pair of runs across in the top half of the sixth to put him in line for a victory. Farris got six swings and misses on 70 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 16 percent. He’ll see if he can replicate the magic from this start when he does battle against the Athletics on Sunday.

It’s the first trip to the show for the 24-year-old southpaw who was a 14th round selection by the Braves from the 2023 draft class. Farris has made 23 appearances (22 starts) at Double-A Rocket City this season, registering a 4.27 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 142/55 K/BB ratio over 116 innings. He’ll slot into the Angels’ rotation on either Tuesday or Wednesday against the Royals.
