Burnett’s elbow started bothering him following his appearance Wednesday in Chicago. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Deolis Guerra and Lester Oliveros are the candidates to be recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Burnett experienced elbow discomfort last week and was a candidate for the disabled list. But he responded well to anti-inflammatories and earned his second win of the season -- despite giving up the go-ahead run on an eighth inning base hit. Burnett’s ERA (2.84) is surprisingly good given his 7/11 BB/K ratio and the fact that opponents are batting .268 against him.

Burnett has a promising 0.77 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 8/1 K/BB ratio in 11 2/3 innings this season in the minors. He should do well in a middle relief role for the O’s.
