    Hassan broke the news himself on Twitter, saying that he’s re-enrolled at Duke in order to finish his degree. The 28-year-old was a pretty good prospect for the Red Sox a few years ago, but he really struggled at the Triple-A level in 2016 and finishes his career with just nine plate appearances in the majors (all in 2014).

    The move opens a 40-man roster spot for veteran outfielder Cody Ross, who was released by the Diamondbacks on Saturday and officially signed by the A’s on Wednesday. Hassan, 27, has logged just nine career plate appearances at the major league level. He will likely make it through waivers unclaimed.
