Alexis Rios, 10-15 pounds heavier after working out over the winter, arrived at camp yesterday with a tender shoulder.
''It’s not serious,’' manager John Gibbons said. ''He said he was lifting a lot of weights but I’m not sure how it happened.’' Rios is set to act as the Jays’ everyday right fielder this season.

Alexis Rios is a candidate to be demoted today when the Blue Jays activate Orlando Hudson off the disabled list.
Rios has been inconsistent in his first major league trial batting .228 with only one RBI in 16 games to date. He has at times also looked shaky defensively, although he made a tremendous catch on the weekend against the Diamondbacks.

The Blue Jays plan to keep Alexis Rios in the majors even after Frank Catalanotto and Vernon Wells come off the DL.
''We’re starting to see the guy we thought we would see,’' manager Carlos Tosca said of Rios. Rios has six RBI through 37 games, so we’re not seeing the same things Tosca is. He should be developing in the minors.

Alexis Rios is having trouble tracking fly balls due to poor footwork.
This is a problem that the Jays’ young outfielder had in spring training as well. Rios, who will continue to work with Toronto’s coaching staff to correct the problem, will have to improve if he is to stay in the majors this season.

Alex Rios may find himself on the bench more because of Reed Johnson’s hot streak.
''He’s still a young pup. He’s still learning the league, and he’s still learning himself,’' said Gibbons. ''What is he, 24 -- with a year under his belt? He’s just looking for that consistency.’'

Alex Rios went 5-for-5 with a home run and a walk tonight against the Tigers.
Rios needed something like this to help keep him in the lineup. He had been in a 2-for-23 slump.

Alex Rios went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer off Tigers starter Sean Douglass tonight.
By going 6-for-8 with two homers over the past two days, Rios is trying to prove he should be an everyday player. He should make an increasingly rare third straight start tomorrow.

With Shea Hillenbrand gone, manager John Gibbons said Wednesday that he “likes” Alex Rios hitting in the middle of the lineup rather than near the top.
Rios batted fifth Wednesday for just the second time this season. He’s hitting just .238 (10-for-42) since returning from the disabled list, but a move to the heart of the order will eventually boost his RBI total.

Alex Rios went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in the Jays’ 6-4 win over the Orioles on Tuesday night.
Rios hit his career-high 11th homer in his 205th at-bat of the season. He had 10 home runs in 481 at-bats last year.

Alex Rios, Frank Catalanotto, and Vernon Wells all hit solo homers in a 6-3 win over the Orioles on Wednesday.
It’s their 15th, 5th, and 17th homers of the season respectively. Rios still hasn’t cooled off after a fast start as he’s hit five homers in the first half of June.
