Tigers re-signed RHP Aneurys Zabala to a minor league contract.
Zabala made two relief appearances for the Marlins during the 2022 campaign and wound up posting a respectable 4.25 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 103/49 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings (53 appearances) this season for Triple-A Toledo. The hard-throwing 26-year-old right-hander represents extra organizational relief depth for Detroit heading into spring training.

The 26-year-old hurler struggled in his limited minor league action in 2022 -- posting a cringe-inducing 9.79 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and a 34/31 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville in the Marlins’ organization. He’ll add bullpen depth in the upper minors for the Tigers.

The 25-year-old right-hander broke through to the big leagues for the first time in 2022, hurling 2 2/3 scoreless innings in two appearances with the Marlins. Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Jacksonville though, he’ll see what else is out there on the free agent market.
