Giants purchased the contract of infielder Angel Chavez from Triple-A Fresno.
Chavez, 24, hit .283/.310/.442 in 30 games for Single-A San Jose and .281/.320/.449 in 89 games for Fresno. He’s a pretty good defender at shortstop, but it’s unlikely that he’ll hit in the majors. The Giants will try to figure out whether he’s a candidate to make next year’s squad as a utilityman.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Angel Chavez has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Chavez, 26, was the Dodgers’ 25th man to open the season, but he didn’t see any playing time in four days before being designated for assignment. If the team’s infielders can stay healthy, he won’t be heard from again.
  • ATL 2nd Baseman
Dodgers purchased the contracts of third baseman Blake DeWitt and infielder Angel Chavez from Triple-A Las Vegas.
DeWitt will start at third base until Nomar Garciaparra comes off the DL. Chavez can serve as a utilityman, but what starts that don’t go to the regulars should go to Chin-Lung Hu.
  • INT Relief Pitcher
The Dodgers are planning on calling up Chan Ho Park and designated Angel Chavez for assignment before Friday’s game.
It’s possible Park will start Saturday if the Dodgers don’t want to bring Chad Billingsley back then. Otherwise, he’ll pitch in middle relief.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Dodgers designated infielder Angel Chavez for assignment.
Chavez didn’t get into a game during his four days with the Dodgers.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Rays signed infielder Angel Chavez to a minor league contract.
Chavez, 28, has only 20 major league plate appearances to his name and only four singles and one double to show for it. He hit .253/.282/.333 last year for the Red Sox’ Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Giants designated infielder Angel Chavez for assignment.
We’re not high on Chavez at all, but given that he’s hit .293/.414/.466 in 58 at-bats this spring, some team may him a look. He has options remaining.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
The Phillies claimed infielder Angel Chavez off waivers from the Giants and assigned him to Double-A Reading.
Chavez, 24, hit .281/.320/.449 for Triple-A Fresno before spending last September in the majors with the Giants. We’re guessing he would have made it through waivers if not for his .293/.414/.466 line this spring. He’s a utilityman at best, and the Phillies probably won’t call on him until September.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Angel Chavez went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI yesterday for Culiacan of the MPL.
Chavez, who spent September as a backup infielder for the Giants, was hitting just .184/.264/.280 in 125 AB in Mexico. He’s unlikely to have a spot on next year’s club.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Orioles acquired infielder Angel Chavez from the Phillies as the player to be named in the Jeff Conine trade.
Unimpressive. Chavez, 25, was hitting .265/.308/.416 in 449 at-bats between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. At best, he’ll be a defensive-minded utilityman in the majors.
