Orioles acquired LHP Antonio Velez, OF Kevin Guerrero, a player to be named later and a competitive balance round B draft pick from the Marlins for RHP Cole Sulser and LHP Tanner Scott.
Velez, 25, had a terrific season in his first taste of the minor leagues, posting a 2.55 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 93/11 K/BB ratio across 99 innings between High-A Beloit and Double-A Pensacola. He was obviously a bit older than most to debut at those levels, but it’s hard to argue with the results. Given the lack of depth -- both in the rotation and in the bullpen for the Orioles -- it wouldn’t be surprising to see Velez debut at some point during the 2022 season.
