Cardinals RHP prospect Austin Love struck out 10 over five scoreless frames Sunday for High-A Peoria.
Love gave up two hits, and he walked three. Drafted with the 91st pick of the 2021 draft out of North Carolina, Love was awful in his debut while allowing nine runs while getting just 10 outs, but bounced back quite nicely. The 23-year-old has an above-average fastball that doesn’t offer a ton of movement, but does get up to the high 90s to keep hitters honest. His best pitch is a change that gets plus grades, but he also has a competent slider with the ability to throw all three for strikes. Love is likely just a mid-rotation starter, but there’s enough upside in his arm to suggest the possibility for fantasy success.
