Montgomery

Montgomery finished the AFL season with a .333/.436/.500 line to go along with three homers, 14 RBIs and 10 steals in 19 games. The 8th overall pick in the 2021 Draft has shown flashes of plus raw tools as a pro, but his 2022 was interrupted by a quad injury and he posted a 27.2 percent strikeout rate in high-A in 2023. However, Montgomery also had 10 home runs and 18 steals in 109 games this year, so the 20-year-old still has some upside; although, he’s a couple seasons away from the big leagues.

Montgomery, 19, has now picked up multiple hits in three straight games for the Grizzlies. The eighth pick of last year’s draft is what the kids like to call “tooled up,” as he’s a terrific athlete with plus-plus speed, a weapons-grade arm and power potential that would play up in any park. The fact that skill set could be on display in Coors Field just makes things even more exciting. Montgomery has at least another year or two of development before he’s making his way to Colorado, but to say that the upside is considerable is the understatement of understatements. Roster him now in dynasty formats while you still can.

Montgomery will get a signing bonus of exactly $5 million, which is just a touch below the $5.1769 million recommended slot value for the No. 8 overall pick, where he was selected earlier this month in the 2021 MLB Draft out of a high school in Pennsylvania. The 18-year-old outfielder is a bit of a project, but he possesses excellent raw power and speed. His fantasy future is bright if he can make some mechanical changes as a pro.

The Rockies add another prep outfielder with a high ceiling after selecting Zac Veen in 2021. The 18-year-old outfielder has plus power potential in his right-handed bat, but the calling card here is his plus-plus speed along with a strong throwing arm. Those tools are nice, but there are some questions about the hit tool, and contact could be an issue. This was a nice fantasy prospect before the draft, but his value increases with the chance to play in Coors Field. The risk is worth the reward.
