Bill Selby is back with the team after attending the birth of his son.
Selby is 0-for-5 with a walk this season.
  • CHC Third Base Coach
Indians designated infielder Bill Selby for assignment.
Selby, who was 4-for-39 this season, figured to lose his job right about now, but that’s because Ricky Gutierrez was expected back. With Gutierrez still some time away from rejoining the squad, the Indians decided to go young in Selby’s spot.

Cardinals acquired infielder Bill Selby from the Indians for catcher Clint Chauncey.
Selby apparently will become a utilityman on the Cardinals, probably replacing either Kerry Robinson or So Taguchi on the roster. There are better options on Triple-A rosters of other teams, but the Cardinals didn’t want to give up any kind of real prospect to acquire one. Chauncey, 22, was hitting .294 in 15 games for Single-A Peoria.

Cubs signed infielder Bill Selby to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Selby has hit .223 with a 639 OPS in parts of five major league seasons. He’ll probably start the year with Triple-A Iowa.

Cardinals assigned infielder Bill Selby to Triple-A Memphis.
It looks like Selby is just around for insurance.
