    Wood is currently sidelined with right elbow soreness and is expected to be reevaulated after 10-14 days. He’ll need to go on a throwing program before returning to game action. The 26-year-old right-hander had a 3.75 ERA and 62/32 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings out of the Royals’ bullpen last season.

    The good news is that it doesn’t appear Wood has anything structurally wrong with the elbow. The bad is that it could still threaten his availability for Opening Day. He posted a 3.75 ERA and 8.0 K/9 rate last season for the Royals.

    Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that Blake Wood was forced from Saturday’s game due to “progressive tightness” in his pitching elbow.
    Wood will be examined Sunday, as evidently it’s an issue he’s had for a while now and it’s gotten worse. Slated to be a middle reliever for Kansas City this season, we’ll update his status when more is known.

    Wood was forced from Saturday’s game due to tightness in his pitching elbow. It’s an issue he’s dealt with for a while now and it’s gotten worse.     The move clears a spot for the newly-promoted Will Smith on the 40-man roster. Wood is expected to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery in the next couple of weeks and figures to miss the early part of the 2013 season.
