Initial X-rays on Braves outfield prospect Braxton Davidson’s left foot showed a mid-foot sprain.
Davidson injured the foot Saturday’s Arizona Fall League championship game when he hit a walk-off home run. It looks like he avoided any broken bones, although he’s slated to undergo an MRI on Monday just to be sure.
  • Braves prospect OF Braxton Davidson hurt his foot after hitting a walk-off home run in Saturday’s Arizona Fall League championship game.
Davidson hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning but hopped home, and was heard telling people “I broke my foot” as he was being helped off the field. He was taken to a local hospital for further testing for a possible left foot fracture. What an emotional swing for the 22-year-old.
  • Braves prospect OF Braxton Davidson went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and three walks on Wednesday for Low-A Rome.
Davidson is enjoying a solid full-season debut in the South Atlantic League, batting .245/.386/.362 with 11 extra-base hits and 16 RBI through 50 games. The 18-year-old already has four home runs this season, which is an encouraging sign considering he failed to jump the yard in 50 games last summer. Meanwhile, Davidson’s plate discipline has translated nicely at the more advanced level, with a 56/37 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 202 plate appearances.
  • Braves selected high school OF Braxton Davidson with the 32nd overall pick.
MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds ranked Davidson as the No. 2 high school bat behind Alex Jackson, comparing the former to possible future teammate Freddie Freeman. Davidson has big-time power and a thick, sturdy frame. The North Carolina native has a very quick bat and a strong arm that produced fastballs in the low-90s on the mound. Scouts think he’ll be able to stick in an outfield corner despite below-average speed. If Davidson can’t, the bat better hit its ceiling to allow him to move to first.
  • Braves signed first-round pick OF Braxton Davidson.
Davidson will receive $1.705 million, which is right at the slot value for the No. 32 pick. One of the best high school bats in the draft, Davidson figures to move slowly through the system but has plenty of offensive upside.
  • Braves prospect OF Braxton Davidson has been promoted from the Gulf Coast League to Rookie-level Danville of the Appalachian League.
The No. 32 overall pick in this year’s draft, Davidson batted .243/.400/.324 with eight extra-base hits, eight RBI and a 32-22 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 37 games in the GCL. The 18-year-old was viewed as one of the best pure hitters in this year’s draft class, but his value will always be tied to his bat given his limited defensive profile as a left field and/or first baseman.
