Devil Rays reassigned infielders Brian Lesher, B.J. Upton, Jay Canizaro, Ryan Jackson, Gabby Martinez; catchers Charlie Greene and Angel Pena; and outfielder Chad Mottola to minor league camp.
Lesher and Mottola both would be candidates to outhit Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli and Greg Vaughn, but with three at-bats between them, they weren’t given opportunities to show anything this spring. Ryan Thompson and Lee Stevens managed to survive the first cut, but they only have a chance of making the team if Vaughn gets released.
