No, not that Burt Reynolds. This one is apparently Robinson Cano’s 23-year-old cousin. He was previously a farmhand with the Rays and played last season with the Newark Bears of the independent Can-Am League. He’ll serve as organizational fodder.

This Burt Reynolds is Robinson Cano’s cousin, he’s 25-years-old, and he didn’t appear in “Boogie Nights.” Reynolds, born in the Dominican Republic before moving to New Jersey, was a 30th-round draft pick by the Nationals in 2006. He has spent time in independent ball since 2011 and has never progressed beyond A-Ball.

The 26-year-old, who is the cousin of Mariners superstar Robinson Cano, spent the 2014 season split between Class-A Clinton and High-A High Desert where he slashed .267/.337/.503 with 16 homers and 56 RBI in 92 games. He’s nothing more than minor league depth for the M’s.
