Baragar, who will go to Triple-A, was pitching in indy ball and had a 2.25 ERA and an 18/5 K/BB ratio in 16 innings for Lancaster of the Atlantic League. He had a 2.78 ERA in 45 1/3 major league innings with the Giants in 2020 and ’21.

Baragar signed a minor league contract last December with the Guardians and never wound up getting the call to Cleveland. The 29-year-old lefty holds a solid 2.78 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio across 45 1/3 innings (49 appearances, one start) in the majors since 2020.

Baragar will attempt to win a spot in the Guardians’ Opening Day bullpen during spring training after spending all of last season stationed at Triple-A Reno for the Diamondbacks. The 28-year-old southpaw holds a strong 2.78 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio across 45 1/3 innings (49 appearances, one start) in the majors since 2020.

Baragar passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and will remain with the Diamondbacks as organizational relief depth. The 27-year-old left-hander made 25 relief appearances last year at the major-league level with the Giants.

Baragar has been removed from the Diamondbacks’ 40-man roster to make room for veteran lefty Oliver Pérez. There should be some interest in the 27-year-old lefty on waivers.

Baragar was claimed off waivers from the division-rival Giants during spring training and should be able to help the Diamondbacks’ bullpen at some point relatively soon. Ellis hit just .133 in eight Cactus League contests this spring and won’t make Arizona’s Opening Day roster.

Baragar was designated for assignment last Monday by the Giants and will get a look in Arizona moving forward. The 27-year-old left-hander made 25 relief appearances last year at the major-league level in San Francisco.

Baragar gets caught up in the Giants’ roster crunch as the organization needed to free up a 40-man roster spot to finalize deals with free agent starters Carlos Rodón and Jakob Junis. The 27-year-old now has two saves on the year and posted a new career-high on Saturday in innings pitched. The southpaw holds a 1.57 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 23 frames this season with 16 strikeouts.
