If he clears waivers again, Reyes likely will accept an assignment to Triple-A Durham.

It will be Reyes’ first appearance in the majors since 2000 with San Diego, and his first big league start since 1997 with Oakland. Reyes has been very successful at Durham, but there’s really no reason for the Rays to call up the 34-year-old.

Considering that he was facing the Rangers, Reyes’ performance was quite impressive. He’s not to be picked up in AL-only leagues, however.

Reyes is starting tonight against the Rangers.

Reyes opted for free agency. The 34-year-old had a 5.22 ERA in three starts and seven relief appearances for Tampa Bay.

Reyes, 34, was outstanding for Triple-A Durham last season, going 10-3 with a 2.86 ERA. He’ll rejoin the club this year.

So much for Reyes still being a part of the Tampa Bay rotation. The Rays will probably start Jorge Sosa on Saturday and hope that Joe Kennedy can return soon.
