Free agent Chad Fox, who missed most of the season with an inflamed ulnar nerve, expects to resume throwing off a mound next month.
Fox will probably have to settle for a minor league contract after making $1.2 million for throwing 10 2/3 innings last season. The Marlins are interested in re-signing him.

Chad Fox (strained oblique) has yet to throw off a mound and could miss several more weeks.
''When he tries to throw with any intensity, it still bothers him some,’' Little said. Don’t count on Fox being a valuable member of the Boston bullpen this season.

Chad Fox is worried that his latest elbow injury could be career-threatening.
Fox will be examined Monday by Dr. James Andrews, at which time more will be known. It doesn’t look good for someone who’s already undergone three elbow surgeries.

Chad Fox (strained oblique) will throw in a simulated game today.
If all goes well, Fox could return by the end of the month.

Chad Fox, on the DL with an oblique injury, played catch before yesterday’s game, but still expects to be out a month.
After the weekend, Fox will report to extended spring training to begin rehab activities. By the time Fox returns, the Red Sox should have found a closer or a committee that works, so don’t expect him to be in the hunt for saves.

Marlins signed RHP Chad Fox and assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.
The Red Sox released the oft-injured Fox after obtaining Scott Williamson. His stuff has never been questioned, just his health. He makes a nice pickup for the Marlins as extra depth or insurance for Tim Spooneybarger. No fantasy value, though.

Chad Fox has a clause in his contact that allows him to opt for free agency if the Marlins fail to place him on their major league roster by Friday.
Fox, who signed last week, is pitching at Triple-A Albuquerque. The Marlins may call for him soon. Fox reports throwing 95-97 mph during his three scoreless outings in Albuquerque.

Chad Fox is experimenting with a change-up this spring.
Fox, who has only thrown fastball and sliders, has been oft-injured in his career, and thinks the change-up might help his longevity.

Chad Fox is scheduled to have his injured right elbow examined Wednesday by Dr. James Andrews, and there’s a chance Andrews will perform an arthroscopy.
Fox said the numbness and tingling in his arm have not gone away, even though he hasn’t picked up a baseball in nearly five weeks.

Chad Fox pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save for the Red Sox tonight.
Fox, who was charged with a blown save in the first game of the season, could emerge as the favorite for saves in the Boston bullpen. He and Alan Embree are the best bets right now.
