Less than two minutes before the first pitch at Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, Che-Hsuan Lin was scratched from the lineup, indicating that he may be on his way to Boston.
Manager Bobby Valentine hinted after the game that they would require another outfielder after Jacoby Ellsbury’s injury, and Lin fills that role. He’s not a tremendous asset offensively and will likely serve as the team’s fourth outfielder until Ellsbury returns. Expect Ryan Sweeney, Cody Ross and Darnell McDonald to man the outfield in the meantime.

Red Sox purchased the contract of OF Che-Hsuan Lin from Triple-A Pawtucket.
The move is largely a formality, as Lin was pulled from the Pawtucket lineup last night. Lin, 23, will likely serve as the Red Sox’s fourth outfielder until Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder) returns. Ryan Sweeney, Cody Ross and Darnell McDonald stand to benefit in the short-term.
  • BOS Outfield
Red Sox purchased the contract of OF Jason Repko from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Repko will replace Che-Hsuan Lin and is expected to start in center field Sunday. The veteran outfielder offers little in the way of upside, but should provide insurance behind Cody Ross, Darnell McDonald and Ryan Sweeney.

Red Sox optioned OF Che-Hsuan Lin to Triple-A Pawtucket.
After one day on the roster, Lin returns to Pawtucket to make way for veteran backup outfielder Jason Repko. Lin, 23, could be back later this season, especially if injuries continue to wreak havoc on Boston’s outfield.

The Red Sox are expected to purchase the contract of Jason Repko from Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday.
Repko has apparently overcome a minor injury that he had been dealing with and will replace Che-Hsuan Lin as the Red Sox’s primary backup outfielder. But even if Repko does manage to find some at-bats, he can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Red Sox purchased the contract of OF Che-Hsuan Lin from Triple-A Pawtucket.
The move protects him from December’s Rule 5 Draft. Lin, 23, batted .245/.340/.305 with two homers, 36 RBI, 28 stolen bases and a .644 OPS over 539 plate appearances this season between Double- and Triple-A. He doesn’t do much with the bat, but has solid plate discipline, very good speed and remains an asset defensively in center field.

Red Sox recalled OF Che-Hsuan Lin from Triple-A Pawtucket.
He’ll provide some depth with both Cody Ross (foot) and Ryan Sweeney (head) banged up. Lin has batted .256/.356/.360 with two homers and five steals at Pawtucket this season.

Red Sox optioned OF Che-Hsuan Lin to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Lin lasted just one day on the roster, and won’t be guaranteed a spot as a September call-up. The Red Sox recalled Pedro Beato in a corresponding move.

Ryan Sweeney is not in Monday’s lineup against the Orioles.
Sweeney was tested for a concussion after suffering whiplash while making a diving catch on Saturday and has yet to be cleared by MLB doctors. Che-Hsuan Lin will make the start in right field on Monday and bat ninth.
