Royals signed catcher Chip Alley to a minor league contract.
Alley, a 1995 second-round pick by the Orioles, spent last year playing in the Northern League and hit .343 with a 19/61 K/BB ratio for Winnipeg. Since he’s fully recovered from elbow surgery that caused him to miss 2002, this looks like a nice pickup by the Royals. He’ll probably play for Triple-A Wichita.
