Chris Mason pitched a three-hit shutout Sunday for Double-A Montgomery.
Mason, a 2005 second-round pick, moved to 10-3 with a 2.59 ERA, 80 H and 82/25 K/BB in 94 IP for Montgomery. He lacks the upside of some of the Rays’ other prospects, which is why many think he’ll end up in the bullpen. However, he has the command to make it as a No. 4 starter if his arm holds up.
