Marlins LHP prospect Chris Reed allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings Thursday in a win for Triple-A New Orleans.
He finished with four strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter. The victory was Reed’s first since May 7. Thursday also extended Reed’s scoreless streak to 17 innings. Reed set down 15 hitters in a row after allowing a leadoff single to Omaha 1B Balbino Fuenmayor in the third inning. The 2011 first-round pick made two appearances out of the Marlins’ bullpen last year and could be in line for a few more major league cameos in 2016.

Baseball America’s Matt Eddy reports that Chris Reed has retired from baseball.
Reed is just 26 and was a first-round pick out of Stanford in 2011, but his career just never really got on track. He did make a couple relief appearances for the Marlins in 2015, but the southpaw produced pedestrian numbers in the minors. Even worse, the Marlins traded Grant Dayton to the Dodgers for Reed and Dayton looks like he’ll be a key reliever for Los Angeles for a while.

Dodgers designated LHP Chris Reed for assignment.
The Dodgers claimed Preston Guilmet off waivers from the Rays on Friday and Reed was the casualty. Across 34 2/3 Double and Triple-A innings in 2015, he posted a 5.97 ERA and 1.59 WHIP.

Marlins acquired LHP Chris Reed from the Dodgers in exchange for LHP Grant Dayton.
Reed was a first-round pick in 2011 but just hasn’t worked out. He moved to relief full-time in 2015 but has posted a 5.97 ERA and ugly 21/22 K/BB ratio over 34 2/3 frames between Double- and Triple-A. Perhaps with a change of scenery he’ll figure something out.

Dodgers left-handed pitching prospect Chris Reed struck out seven batters as part of six shutout innings on Wednesday for Double-A Chattanooga.
The London-born, California-raised Reed has now made 48 appearances (43 starts) for the Chattanooga Lookouts, and could be in line for a promotion to Triple-A. The Dodgers have a loaded pitching rotation, so it is unlikely that Reed will make an appearance for the Dodgers before 2015.

Marlins recalled LHP Chris Reed from Triple-A New Orleans.
While the southpaw has struggled in the minor leagues this season, he has good stuff and could excel as a situational left-hander. He will work in middle relief.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher
Marlins sent LHP Chris Reed outright to Triple-A New Orleans.
He’s now off the 40-man roster. A former first-round pick, Reed made a full-time move to reliever this season but responded with a 5.20 ERA between Double- and Triple-A.

Marlins optioned LHP Chris Reed to Triple-A New Orleans.
Reed allowed two runs over four relief innings while up with the big club. He’ll be back in September, if not before.

Dodgers optioned LHP Chris Reed to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Reed posted an underwhelming 4.26 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 158 1/3 innings last season between Double-A and Triple-A. He was not in the running for the Opening Day roster.

Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Chris Reed from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Reed posted an ERA of 10.97 over 21+ innings in 2014. He has three good pitches, but will need to showcase better numbers at Triple-A before a loaded Dodgers team can trust him.
