Rangers prospect right-hander Cody Buckel has been transferred from Double-A Frisco to extended spring training.
Buckel entered the season as one of the Rangers’ top pitching prospects, but he has really struggled in the early going, allowing 27 runs on 10 hits and 28 walks over just 9 1/3 innings. He’s said to be healthy, but something just isn’t right.

    Rangers released RHP Cody Buckel.
Buckel was ranked a top-100 prospect by MLB.com back in 2013, but he had dreadful showings in 2014 and 2015. The right-hander will turn 24 years old in June.

Cody Buckel will serve as the Mariners’ organizational pitching coach in 2018.
Buckel was a second-round pick of the Rangers in 2010 but failed to advance above Double-A, as he was plagued by command issues and injuries during his time with Texas and later the Angels. The 25-year-old right-hander retires with a career 4.03 ERA, 9.7 K/9, and 5.4 BB/9 in 393 minor league innings.
