Corey Wimberly is expected to miss five weeks with a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left hand.
Wimbley was injured in a collision with Cory Vaughn earlier this spring. The 28-year-old offers some speed and versatility, but is nothing more than organizational depth.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Mets signed INF/OF Corey Wimberly to a minor league contract.
Wimberly was slowed with injuries this past season, batting .238/.288/.302 with a .590 OPS over 189 plate appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis. The 28-year-old offers some speed and versatility, but he’s nothing more than organizational depth at this point.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Twins are close to signing infielder Corey Wimberly to a minor league contract.
The deal isn’t yet official. Wimberly, 30, spent last season in the minors with the Braves and Reds. He’d strictly be organizational depth for Minnesota.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Twins signed INF/OF Corey Wimberly to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old utility player split his time between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Pensacola in 2013, slashing .252/.302/.319 with one homer, 16 RBI and nine stolen bases. He’ll serve as nothing more than organizational depth for the Twins.
  • Athletics optioned OF Aaron Cunningham, INF Gregorio Petit and RHP Chris Schroder to Triple-A Sacramento; reassigned RHP Edgar Gonzalez, C Joel Galarraga and INF Corey Wimberly to minor league camp.
Maybe if Ryan Sweeney’s injury put him on the DL, Cunningham could have made the A’s. With everyone healthy, he didn’t have a shot. However, he may be next in line for regular playing time if someone goes down. Petit lost his little battle with Cliff Pennington, but there’s not going to be room for Pennington either unless Bobby Crosby is traded. Gonzalez, who likely would have had a rotation spot with a decent spring, gave up 17 runs and 26 hits in 14 innings.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Double-A Tulsa’s Corey Wimberly left Friday’s game and didn’t play Saturday because of a mild groin strain.
Wimberley is hitting .290/.366/.350 with 30 steals for Tulsa this season.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Corey Wimberly will be out for a few days due to a calf strain.
No word on how he suffered the injury. Wimberly, 26, batted .296/.363/.350 with 28 RBI and 21 stolen bases with Double-A Midland last season. He isn’t expected to threaten for a roster spot.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Athletics acquired infielder Corey Wimberly from the Rockies for outfielder Matt Murton.
Wimberly, a switch-hitting second baseman, hit .291/.370/.345 with 59 steals last season in his second year at Double-A Tulsa. The 25-year-old is never going to hit for any power at all, but he could be an adequate stopgap at second base if needed. Unfortunately, his lack of versatility means he’ll probably spend most of his career in the minors.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Corey Wimberly went 0-for-4 Tuesday in his season debut for Double-A Tulsa.
Wimberly, one of the candidates to be the Rockies’ long-term second baseman, missed the first month with a hamstring injury. He hit .325/.404/.383 with 50 steals for Single-A Modesto last year.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman
Pirates acquired INF-OF Corey Wimberly from the Athletics for RHP Ryan Kelly.
Wimberly, 27, batted .284/.373/.354 with three home runs, 57 RBI and 56 stolen bases in 74 attempts at Triple-A Sacramento this past season while playing both the infield and the outfield. He’s getting a little old for a prospect, but there’s still a chance he could stick as a utility player in the big leagues.
