    Pirates recalled OF Daniel Ortiz from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
    David Freese was placed on the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old Ortiz will be making his major league debut. He was batting just .217/.266/.233 with zero homers and three RBI at Triple-A. He hit 17 home runs in each of the last two years in the minors. He will serve as bench depth for the Pirates.

    Ortiz was outrighted off the Pirates’ 40-man roster in early August after going 1-for-12 in a couple different stints at the major league level. He spent the majority of the 2017 season in Triple-A, batting .270/.303/.457 with 15 home runs and 63 RBI in 110 games.
