Yankees purchased the contract of catcher David Parrish from Triple-A Columbus.
Parrish, the son of former Tigers All-Star Lance, has been a bust since being drafted in the first-round in 2000. He’s only getting called up because Sal Fasano would have needed to go through waivers to be sent back to the minors when Jorge Posada returns, and the Yankees would prefer to wait until they truly need another catcher to bring him up.

Yankees re-signed catcher David Parrish to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Parrish, who briefly appeared with the Yankees in 2004, will battle Ben Davis for a spot on Triple-A Columbus’ roster. Wil Nieves should be the team’s primary catcher.

Pirates re-signed catcher David Parrish to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Before joining the Pirates last season, Parrish, 27, had been in the Yankees system since the team made him a first-round pick in 2000. He hit .292/.364/.413 in 240 at-bats for Double-A Altoona in 2006. The Pirates will put him back there or move him up to Triple-A next season.

Yankees designed catcher David Parrish for assignment.
Parrish, who was added to the 40-man roster and called up when Jorge Posada was hurt last month, shouldn’t have any difficulty clearing waivers.
