The Royals will not tender Derrick Robinson a contract.
Robinson cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, but the Royals have decided to part ways with him. He batted .268/.344/.325 with two homers, 23 stolen bases and a .668 OPS in 116 games this past season with Triple-A Omaha.
  • Royals recalled OF Derrick Robinson from Triple-A Omaha.
Robinson hit .268/.344/.325 with two homers and 23 steals in his first taste of Triple-A this season. He doesn’t appear ready to challenge for a big league roster spot soon.
  • Royals designated OF Derrick Robinson for assignment.
Robinson, 25, batted .268/.344/.325 with two homers, 23 stolen bases and a .668 OPS in 116 games this season with Triple-A Omaha. He has good speed and plays quality defense in center field, but the Royals have decided that there are better ways to use a 40-man roster spot.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo will bat second for the first time this season in Wednesday’s game against the Cubs.
Choo has been a hit out of the leadoff spot this season, but Reds manager Dusty Baker will give Derrick Robinson a try there Wednesday. The usual No. 2 hitter, Zack Cozart, is getting the day off Wednesday, so it’s likely just a one-game thing.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo will bat second Wednesday against the Pirates.
Meanwhile, Derrick Robinson will bat leadoff against left-hander Jeff Locke. It’s worth noting that Reds manager Dusty Baker had the same arrangement last week when southpaw Travis Wood was on the hill for the Cubs.
  • MIN Outfield #24
Chris Heisey (hamstring) is expected to return from the disabled list next Tuesday in Oakland.
Heisey has been on the shelf since April 27 because of a severe hamstring strain. He was originally expected to return in mid-May but aggravated the hamstring on his first rehab assignment. The 28-year-old will presumably take over in left field, where Derrick Robinson and Xavier Paul had been platooning for second-place Cincinnati.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo is not in Tuesday’s lineup against the Mets.
He’ll get a day off with left-hander Jon Niese on the hill for New York. Derrick Robinson will play center field and bat leadoff.
  • Reds signed OF Derrick Robinson to a minor league contract.
The Royals non-tendered Robinson earlier this winter after he batted .268/.344/.325 with two homers, 23 stolen bases and a .668 OPS in 116 games with Triple-A Omaha. He’ll be assigned to Triple-A to start 2013.
  • Derrick Robinson accounted for all of the Reds offense in Friday’s loss to the Rockies, delivering an RBI triple in the eighth inning.
Robinson, who was signed to a minor league deal this offseason, is hitting a cool .346 (9-for-26) with four RBI this spring. He’s an extreme longshot to crack the opening day roster however, and is slated to open the season in the outfield at Triple-A Louisville.
  • Reds purchased the contract of OF Derrick Robinson from Triple-A Louisville.
He’ll take the place of the injured Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) on the active roster. Robinson, 25, batted .268/.344/.325 with two homers, 23 stolen bases and a .668 OPS in 116 games with the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate last season. He has some speed, but is unlikely to be fantasy relevant.
