Royals signed RHP Devon Lowery to a minor league contract.
Lowery hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2008 and wasn’t any good back then. The 29-year-old right-hander seems doubtful to make it to Kansas City in 2013.

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Devon Lowery from Triple-A Omaha.
Kind of an odd choice, given the presence of some superior prospects at Omaha. Still, it makes sense that the Royals want to take a look at Lowery before they would have potentially lost him as a minor league free agent this winter. The 2001 14th-round pick will make his major league debut after posting a 2.12 ERA in 59 1/3 innings for Omaha, but he’s not very likely to make it as a middle reliever.

Royals optioned 1B Kila Ka’aihue and RHP Devon Lowery to Triple-A Omaha.
The Mike Jacobs acquisition guaranteed that Ka’aihue would return to the minors. He was 4-for-17 with five walks this spring. Lowery gets dropped even though he had pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
