Making his first start of the season for Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Dustin Moseley allowed one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings.
He didn’t factor in the decision. The former first-round pick was hindered by a back injury earlier in the season.

2000 first-round pick Dustin Moseley will get a chance to start at least one game for Triple-A Louisville.
Moseley is 5-5 with a 3.82 ERA at Double-A Chattanooga. Louisville is in need of pitchers, so Moseley could go back to Double-A soon.

Dustin Moseley gave up two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings in his start for Triple-A Louisville last night.
Moseley wasn’t all that effective for Double-A Chattanooga. Even if he continues to pitch well for Louisville, it’s unlikely the Reds will rush him to the majors this year.

Dustin Moseley held the Brewers to one run on four hits over four innings of work Thursday.
He recorded a pair of strikeouts. Moseley wasn’t so good in his first spring outing, but he’s now given up just one run over his last seven frames while sporting a 5/0 K/BB ratio. He posted a 3.30 ERA and 64/36 K/BB ratio over 120 innings last season and could be a decent plug-and-play fantasy option for home starts.

Dustin Moseley conceded Thursday that shoulder surgery is probably his “only option.”
Moseley was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained right shoulder. An MRI revealed extensive damage, affecting the rotator cuff and labrum. It’s not clear when he’ll make a final decision on surgery, but it would almost certainly put the rest of the season at risk.

Dustin Moseley underwent shoulder surgery Wednesday.
Moseley was diagnosed last week with a torn labrum and capsule in his throwing shoulder. He’s done for the 2012 season and is likely to miss part of 2013 as well.

Dustin Moseley took swings off a tee Tuesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder last August.
Moseley admitted that he was tense during Tuesday’s hitting session, which is understandable since he had the surgery after dislocating his shoulder on a swing last year. With that in mind, the Padres plan to bring him along slowly before he hits in a game. The good news is that throwing obviously isn’t an issue. Moseley, 31, posted a 3.30 ERA and 64/36 K/BB ratio over 120 innings last season and projects to open 2012 in the Padres’ starting rotation.

Dustin Moseley gave up seven runs (four earned) over five innings Friday night against the Giants.
All seven runs scored in the fifth inning. Moseley allowed nine hits (including a three-run homer by Palbo Sandoval) while fanning two and walking two. This was the first time he has allowed more than two earned runs in a start this spring. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 3.30 ERA over 20 starts last season, but he’s not worth owning outside of NL-only formats.

Padres manager Bud Black said an MRI on Dustin Moseley’s right shoulder revealed “extensive damage.”
“He’s going to be shut down for a period of time that will take him past 15 days,” Black said. “I know it’s frustrating. I’m bummed for him.” While Black wouldn’t discuss a timetable for the right-hander, it sure sounds like surgery, which may or may not end his season, is possible. With Tim Stauffer (elbow) not quite ready, the Padres could call up Joe Wieland to make his major league debut Saturday.

Padres manager Bud Black said Dustin Moseley (shoulder) is expected to spend more than 15 days on the disabled list.
Black didn’t elaborate more than that, but Dan Hayes of the North County Times said the MRI on Moseley’s shoulder “didn’t sound good.” We’ll update his condition when more is known. Anthony Bass will take Moseley’s spot in the rotation on Thursday, and it sounds like he could remain there for a while.
