Tigers signed 1B Edwin Espinal to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Espinal, 23, joins the Tigers organization after batting .294/.327/.447 with 15 homers and 86 RBI over 130 games between the Pirates’ Double- and Triple-A affiliates in 2017. He’s never hit double-digit homers in a season before and will primarily function as depth in the minors.
