Maysonet

The grand slam was set up when Cubs manager Dale Sveum decided to walk Travis Ishikawa intentionally to load the bases. It was just his second career home run. Maysonet made the start at second base on Saturday after Rickie Weeks was hit in the left wrist by a pitch during Friday’s game. X-rays came back negative and Weeks is considered day-to-day, so Maysonet isn’t worth owning in fantasy leagues.

As expected, Weeks is day-to-day after being hit by a pitch from Lendy Castillo on Friday. Edwin Maysonet is starting at second base and batting seventh.

Maysonet, a non-roster invitee, batted .296 (8-for-27) with three doubles, four RBI and a stolen base this spring. The Brewers now have 27 players left in camp.

Maysonet was batting just .214/.309/.286 in 99 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level, but the Brewers need bodies in the wake of Alex Gonzalez’s knee injury.

Maysonet has tallied just three hits in 21 at-bats this year in the major leagues. He’s organizational depth.

He’ll be used as infield depth with Cesar Izturis (hamstring) on the disabled list.

The Brewers needed to clear two spots on the 40-man roster after Friday’s Zack Greinke trade, and Maysonet was one of the causalities. The 30-year-old hit .250/.297/.350 with one homer and four RBI in 30 games with the Brewers this season. Assuming he passes through waivers, he will continue to serve as organizational depth at Triple-A Nashville.

Maysonet was optioned earlier this week when Cody Ransom was claimed off waivers. He’ll be used as infield depth with Cesar Izturis (hamstring) on the disabled list.

Maysonet has batted only .250/.297/.350 in 30 games for the Brewers this season. He has a good shot at getting another chance later this summer.

Maysonet appeared in 30 games with the Brewers as a utility infielder. Entering his age 31 campaign, he would do well to secure a minor league contract and compete for a roster spot in spring training.
