Yardley

Yardley signed a minor league contract with Arizona back in January and has opted to pursue another opportunity rather than head to Triple-A Reno.

The 32-year-old hurler spent the 2022 campaign at the Triple-A level where he compiled a 5.79 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 33/20 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings between the Cubs and Blue Jays’ organizations. He’ll add bullpen depth in the upper minors for the D’Backs.

Yardley was released by the Cubs earlier this month after signing a minor league contract back in January. The 31-year-old righty reliever surrendered a whopping 15 runs (14 earned) with a 5/10 K/BB ratio across 18 2/3 innings (17 appearances) last year with the Brewers. He’ll bolster the Blue Jays’ organizational relief depth this season.

Rodriguez is an extremely hard-throwing right-hander that was believed to be in the mix for a high-leverage role at the backend of the Cubs bullpen, but he’ll start the year at Triple-A instead. The 25-year-old posted a 1.50 WHIP over 2 2/3 scoreless innings during Cactus League play.

Yardley, 31, was outrighted off Milwaukee’s 40-man roster in November, and elected free agency. The 31-year-old was awful in 2021 while allowing 15 runs in just 18 2/3 innings. He’ll provide some depth for the Chicago system in 2022.
