Padres signed RHP Fernando Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
Rodriguez hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2016, but the 34-year-old right-hander posted a decent 3.20 ERA and 71/26 K/BB ratio in 64 2/3 innings last year with the Triple-A affiliate of the Red Sox. He could get a shot at some point out of the San Diego bullpen.

John Axford and Francisco Rodriguez combined on a cataclysmic two innings of work in Sunday’s 11-inning loss to the Nationals, pairing up to allow six runs on six baserunners as Milwaukee blew a 7-2 lead.
Each hurler allowed three runs on two hits, a walk and a home run, though K-Rod could notch only one out while Axford managed five. Axford got slapped with a blown save, his seventh. Axford had worked five straight scoreless outings coming into this afternoon, but it’s hard to suggest he’s ready to reclaim ninth-inning duties following his latest meltdown. Perhaps manager Ron Roenicke will give Kameron Loe a chance in the Brewers’ next save situation, though he said earlier in the week he’d use a committee for the time being.

The Astros could shut Lucas Harrell down after Tuesday’s start.
Harrell threw five innings Tuesday and is now at 187 2/3 frames for the year. The most he had previously thrown was 146, which came in 2009. He threw 144 2/3 last year. Fernando Rodriguez, who tossed 4 1/3 innings of emergency relief on Monday, is an option to fill in for him.

Athletics acquired RHP Fernando Rodriguez from the Astros in a five-player trade.
Rodriguez holds a 4.89 ERA over 119 career appearances, but he’s a hard-thrower that’s struck out over a batter per inning. He’ll work in a middle relief role for the A’s.

Fernando Rodriguez (elbow) will receive a second opinion from Dr. Thomas Mehlhoff on March 26 in Houston.
Rodriguez is looking at Tommy John surgery, but he wants to first make sure he can’t get by with rest and rehab. The 28-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Astros as part of the February Jed Lowrie trade.

Fernando Rodriguez needs Tommy John elbow surgery.
Rodriguez injured his elbow Monday in a Cactus League game and will now miss the entire 2013 season. It’s a tough blow for the 28-year-old right-hander, who was acquired from the Astros as part of the February Jed Lowrie trade. Rodriguez had a 5.37 ERA in 2012.

Fernando Rodriguez left Monday’s Cactus League game against the Padres with right elbow tightness.
The A’s will hope that it turns out to be mild inflammation. Rodriguez, 28, posted a 5.37 ERA and 78/34 K/BB ratio in 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros.

Athletics placed RHP Fernando Rodriguez on the 60-day disabled list with an elbow injury.
It’s strictly a procedural move, as Oakland needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster. Rodriguez is expected to miss the entire 2013 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Fernando Rodriguez is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his right elbow Tuesday.
Rodriguez left Monday’s Cactus League game with elbow tightness, so the A’s want to get to the bottom of the situation. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February’s Jed Lowrie deal.
