Padres signed INF Francisco Acuña to a minor league contract.
The 24-year-old shortstop spent the first seven seasons of his minor league career in the Pirates’ organization. In 2024, Acuña played in just 15 games at Double-A Altoona, slashing .290/.405/.387 with no homers, three RBI, one stolen base and a 6/6 K/BB ratio in 39 plate appearances. He’ll begin his Padres’ career as depth at Double-A San Antonio.

Pirates re-signed SS Francisco Acuña to a minor league contract.
Acuña has spent the last seven seasons in Pittsburgh’s minor league system and finally made it to Triple-A Indianapolis by the end of the 2023 campaign, slashing .255/.347/.358 with one homer and six steals across 192 plate appearances between Single-A Bradenton, High-A Greensboro and Triple-A Indianapolis. The 23-year-old infielder is merely extra organizational depth at this point in his development.
