Francisco Santos, formerly known as Deivis Santos, reported to Triple-A Fresno last week and is 3-for-9 in four games.
Santos missed spring training because of visa problems, and it was learned that his real name was Francisco and that he was actually 29, not 23. The Giants have decided to keep him around, but he’s not any kind of prospect.
  • Giants re-signed first baseman Francisco Santos to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Santos, who aged an additional six years last spring, shouldn’t be a candidate for a spot on the Giants bench.
  • Giants optioned first baseman Deivis Santos to Triple-A Fresno and reassigned RHP Mike Johnson and RHP Brian Powell to minor league camp.
Santos still hasn’t arrived at camp. He’s stuck in the Dominican Republic because of visa problems.
  • Giants recalled infielder Francisco Santos from Triple-A Fresno.
Santos isn’t any kind of prospect -- he’s a 29-year-old with a 695 OPS in Triple-A -- but sadly enough, he is probably the best callup here. Both Tony Torcato and Lance Niekro have been even worse for Fresno, and the Giants need another first baseman with J.T. Snow out and Andres Galarraga still limited. Santos will return to the minors before long.
  • Giants designated first baseman Francisco Santos for assignment.
This move should have been made the moment it was revealed that Santos was 29, not 23 as originally believed. He’s a complete and total non-prospect.
  • Giants prospect Deivis Santos is trapped in the Dominican Republic because of visa problems. When he arrives, the Giants expect to learn that he’s older than his listed age of 23.
He’ll probably also be playing under a different first name this year. Santos wasn’t much of a prospect as a 23-year-old first baseman-outfielder. If he’s 25 or older, the Giants shouldn’t hesitate to drop him from their 40-man roster.
  • Giants optioned first baseman Francisco Santos to Triple-A Fresno.
Santos went 3-for-15 with a homer during his two weeks with the Giants.
