Homer Bush has decided to postpone his planned retirement for now, but he still doesn’t know whether he’ll be able to play again.
Bush will fly to Toronto next week to meet with specialists about his hip problem.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman
Joe Torre may try Homer Bush in the outfield in order to get Bush on the Yankees opening day roster.
Torre likes Bush’s speed, and is trying to make him more flexible. Bush has never played in the outfield, and has been considered a longshot to make the squad.

Yankees re-signed second baseman Homer Bush to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Making a comeback after sitting out a year with a hip injury, Bush hit .291/.327/.380 in 63 games for Triple-A Columbus last season. He’s probably through as a useful player.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman
Yankees released second baseman Homer Bush.
Bush requested the move. He plans to catch on with a team with less infield depth, not that that should allow him to begin the season in the majors. He was 2-for-8 this spring.

Homer Bush continued his work in the outfield today, playing right field in relief of Darren Bragg.
Yes, Darren Bragg is in Yankees camp. Enrique Wilson started at second base and went 2-for-2. Wilson remains the favorite for the second base job, while Bush looks like he’ll have a chance for a utility spot.

Yankees signed second baseman Homer Bush to a minor league contract.
The 31-year-old Bush was out of baseball last year because of a hip problem. He’ll try to make the Yankees as a reserve, but his lack of versatility will make him a weak utility player. He’s not good enough to start at second base, so from this point on, he’s always going to have a difficult time landing a job.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman
Yankees purchased the contract of infielder Homer Bush from Triple-A Columbus.
Bush was hitting .273/.313/.341 while getting most of his playing time at third base for Columbus. He looks like a weak option as a reserve, and he shouldn’t have any fantasy value.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman
Homer Bush has told the Padres he’s retiring due to pain in his hips.
GM Kevin Towers said Bush might try a comeback next year if his hips feel better. With Bush out of the picture, Jose Flores and Keith Lockhart are the remaining competitors for a reserve-infield spot.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman
Homer Bush, signed to a minor league contract by the Yankees last month, doesn’t think the hip injury that kept him out of action last season will be an issue this year.
“The true test is going out there playing on it,” Bush said. “As far as just working out and running and stuff like that, it’s no problem.” Bush likely will begin the season at Triple-A Columbus, but he has more upside than either Enrique Wilson or Miguel Cairo, making him someone to watch.
