Jake Esch gave up just two runs but only lasted 4 1/3 innings while making his major league debut in a start versus the Mets on Wednesday.
He walked a fine line between good and bad tonight by putting a lot of guys on base without giving up many runs. He allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out two. The only dent in the scoreboard came on a two-run homer by Wilmer Flores in the second inning. The 26-year-old failed to deliver inspiring stats at Double-A and Triple-A this year. He is not a recommended option for fantasy owners looking for a “shot in the arm” down the stretch.

Marlins recalled RHP Jake Esch from Triple-A New Orleans.
Esch will make an emergency spot start for the Marlins on Wednesday night against the Mets with David Phelps (oblique) hitting the disabled list. Esch had a 4.31 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 96/46 K/BB ratio in 142 innings this season between Double-A and Triple-A. The 26-year-old right-hander is not a safe fantasy streaming option.

Jake Esch gave up three runs over five innings against the Phillies on Monday.
Esch was cruising along until he hit Aaron Altherr with a pitch to begin the top of the fifth inning. He then gave up a game-tying homer to Freddy Galvis before Peter Bourjos followed with a triple. Bourjos eventually scored the go-ahead run after an error by shortstop Miguel Rojas. Esch has now allowed five runs on 10 hits and five walks with eight strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings over his first two starts in the majors. The 26-year-old is mostly getting starts out of necessity and doesn’t come recommended in fantasy leagues.

Jake Esch made it just 3 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Braves, giving up three runs on seven hits before exiting.
Esch gave up a pair of homers among his seven hits allowed, and he also walked one. In three starts the 26-year-old is 0-1 with a 5.54 ERA, having lasted just 13 innings total in those three outings. He’s not a fantasy commodity.

Marlins optioned RHP Jake Esch to Triple-A New Orleans; re-assigned RHP Juan Benitez, LHPs Nick Maronde, Caleb Thielbar and Matt Tomshaw, Cs Chris Hoo, Rodrigo Vigil and Cam Maron to minor league camp.
There aren’t any surprises in this group. Esch made a few starts for the Marlins last season, but he’ll begin 2017 back in the New Orleans rotation.

Padres recalled RHP Jake Esch from Double-A San Antonio.
Esch was claimed off waivers from the Marlins at the end of spring training and could now be thrust into the Padres’ starting rotation with Luis Perdomo hitting the disabled list Tuesday because of posterior shoulder discomfort. Esch, 27, allowed eight earned runs over 13 innings (three starts) last season with Miami. He should be ignored in all fantasy leagues, no matter what role he ultimately fills.

Esch, 27, made a few starts for the Marlins last season. He’s not much of a prospect and will begin the year in Triple-A El Paso’s rotation.
