Jake Fox and Chris Jakubauskas are unlikely to accept their outright assignments to Triple-A Norfolk.

Pirates signed C-1B Jake Fox to a minor league contract.
Fox hit .246/.313/.442 with two home runs and six RBI in 67 major league plate appearances this year. He has enough raw power to secure a bench spot in Pittsburgh during spring training next March, but he’s never been reliable enough or versatile enough for everyday duties.

Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that first base prospect Matt Hague could platoon at the position with Garrett Jones if Derrek Lee isn’t retained.
Hague batted .309/.372/.457 with 12 homers, 75 RBI and an .829 OPS over 594 plate appearances this season in a breakout year at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 26-year-old isn’t much of a prospect and would be on the short end of the platoon, but he could carve out some NL-only value with enough at-bats. The Pirates also have Jake Fox and Nick Evans as possible platoon mates for Jones.

Fox, 29, was hitting just .236/.309/.366 with two homers and a .675 OPS over his first 139 plate appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He’ll attempt to latch on elsewhere.
