Jayson Werth has a partially torn ligament in his right (throwing) elbow that might require surgery.
Do we have another Luis Gonzalez situation? The Dodgers wouldn’t reveal which ligament Werth tore, but they said he’d miss “a good part” of next season if he underwent surgery -- indicating that he’d need the Tommy John procedure. If this is just a minor tear, Werth could rehab and make it through next season with no problems. Only time will tell. Werth is penciled in as one of the Dodgers’ regular outfielders.

Jayson Werth got the start in right field against left-hander Joe Kennedy last night.
Manager Carlos Tosca said that one of his priorities is to make sure Werth gets his at-bats, although he is not ready to implement an official platoon between Werth and Frank Catalanotto. Tosca says Werth can play all three outfield positions; unfortunately, despite his search for at-bats for the rookie, he isn’t mentioning the possibility of any time behind the plate for the former catcher.

Jayson Werth, who will try to play this season with a partially torn elbow ligament, has been long tossing for about three weeks.
Werth is in the same situation Luis Gonzalez was last year. It’s not believed his tear is quite as severe as Gonzalez’s was, but he still might require Tommy John surgery at some point. For that reason, he’s not going to be asked to cut loose with many throws during camp. Werth is penciled in as the Dodgers’ left fielder and No. 2 hitter.

Over his past 12 games with Triple-A Syracuse, Jayson Werth is hitting .341 with four homers, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored.
Werth will come up when rosters expand but probably won’t get much of an opportunity to do anything until spring training.
