Marquee Network’s Taylor McGregor reports the Cubs and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer have agreed to a multi-year contract extension.
No word yet on the length of the long-term deal. Hoyer has led Chicago’s baseball operations department since team president Theo Epstein stepped away back in 2020. The 51-year-old executive has been with the organization since the 2011 campaign. His current contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Cubs hired Ehsan Bokhari as assistant general manager.
He’s the latest addition to the revamped front office under president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer, joining new general manager Carter Hawkins. Bokhari has spent the last three seasons in the Astros baseball operations department while serving as senior director of strategic decision making. He previously spent four seasons with the Dodgers.

According to The Athletic’s Brittany Ghiroli, Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney, the Cubs are finalizing a deal with Cleveland assistant general manager Carter Hawkins to become their next general manager.
Hawkins, 37, has spent the last 14 seasons with Cleveland and will become one of the youngest general managers in the game. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer has made his choice from a group of four finalists regarding the architect of the team’s impending full-scale rebuilding effort. There should be an official announcement from the organization, likely at the conclusion of the postseason.

According to Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, the Cubs are expected to name a new general manager soon, possibly before the conclusion of the divisional round of the postseason.
Sharma and Mooney added that Carlos Rodriguez (Rays), Jeremy Zoll (Twins), Carter Hawkins (Cleveland) and James Harris (Cleveland) are among the final candidates under consideration for the role under Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. The Cubs remain in the opening stages of a full-scale rebuilding effort, and are likely a few seasons away from contending again in the NL Central. Yet, they appear close to naming a new general manager, who will be at the helm of that long-term roster-building effort.

Cubs manager David Ross and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer have tested positive for COVID-19.
Both are vaccinated and are feeling well, but they are obviously now quarantining and will have to do so for at least 10 days. Bench coach Andy Green will manage the Cubs while Ross is away.

The Cubs have promoted Jeff Greenberg to assistant general manager and Craig Breslow to assistant general manager/VP of pitching.
New Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer is shuffling the baseball operations department following Theo Epstein’s departure. These were among more than a dozen new titles announced on Monday. Greenberg and Breslow will join Randy Bush as assistant general managers. Breslow is the fastest riser here, most recently serving as director of pitching and special assistant to the GM and president. Hoyer said last week that he planned on going outside the organization for a new general manager. That search is presumably ongoing.

Chris Valaika has been named the Cubs’ assistant hitting coach.
It’s an internal promotion, as Valaika was the team’s minor league hitting coordinator. He’ll work with hitting coach Anthony Iapoce in his new position with the big club.

The Cubs and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer have agreed to a five-year extension.
The new deal will run through the 2025 season. Hoyer has been with the Cubs since October of 2011 and was promoted to the position of president of baseball operations after Theo Epstein stepped down last week. This is a crucial offseason for the Cubs, with the future of many key players up in the air. Hoyer will be responsible for charting the course forward.

Theo Epstein has stepped down as Cubs president, effective November 20th.
Huge news out of Chicago. Epstein still had one year remaining on his contract, so he’s likely walking away from a substantial sum of money. Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer will now ascend to the position of president of baseball operations in what will be a pivotal offseason for the team’s future. Epstein has been with the Cubs since October of 2011 and later helped the Cubs to their first World Series championship since 1908. While the Mets and Phillies are looking for new team presidents, Epstein plans to take next season off. He could really do anything he wants at this point.
