Jeremy Reed, who grounded out in his first major-league at-bat last night, will likely start in center field tonight against the Red Sox.
Mariners’ manager Bob Melvin will have Ichiro Suzuki as his DH this evening.

Outfielder Jeremy Reed, RHP Aaron Taylor and third baseman Greg Dobbs will likely be the Mariners’ only September callups.
Many of the team’s minor-leaguers who were worthy of a promotion (Bucky Jacobsen, Jose Lopez and Justin Leone) are already with the club.

No final decision will be made until March, but Mariners manager Mike Hargrove is leaning toward using Jeremy Reed as his primary center fielder.
"(Reed) doesn’t have to go out and have a great spring to win it,” Hargrove said. “But it will make it tougher on me and on him and on everybody if he goes out and has a bad spring.” If Reed starts, Randy Winn would play left field and Raul Ibanez would act as the DH. The Mariners could put Winn and Ibanez back at last year’s positions against lefties and use Bucky Jacobsen as the DH.

Jeremy Reed went 3-for-4 and stole his fifth and sixth bases of the season tonight against the Mariners.
He’s playing outstanding defense on a nightly basis, but Reed has been quite the disappointment offensively as a rookie. He entered tonight at .250/.319/.338 and he had been caught in eight of his 12 steal attempts. If he wants to have a long-term future in Seattle, he’ll have to do better next season.

Jeremy Reed (thumb) has been cleared to begin strength exercises, and is expected to return sometime in September.
Reed said he won’t do anything baseball-related for another 10 days. “I’m in the pool, doing manual workouts with the hand, trying to get the wrist moving again,” said Reed. “Hopefully working towards getting the glove back on. It’s still sore.”

Jeremy Reed hopes to begin baseball activities with his broken right thumb in the next five to 10 days.
Reed, who was injured diving for a fly ball on July 2, recently had the cast removed from his hand. Since he’s on the 60-day DL, he’s not going to return to the active roster until early September.

Jeremy Reed homered and doubled Sunday against the Angels.
This after he went 2-for-3 with two walks last night. Reed has been a disappointment again this year, but he’s going to begin hitting right-handers at a .280-.300 clip at some point. The potential is there for him to be a decent fantasy outfielder in the second half.

Jeremy Reed (thumb) reported his right hand felt fine after his latest round of batting practice.
Reed was hitting just .217 when he went down seven weeks ago. He’s hoping to return sometime in September, but won’t likely have any fantasy value this season.

Jeremy Reed (thumb) is scheduled to take batting practice Tuesday.
Reed, who has been on the disabled list since July 3, is hoping for a September return.

Jeremy Reed will likely miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken thumb while diving for a ball on Sunday.
X-rays show that Reed suffered a broken thumb. He he is expected to need to have surgery to fix the break. Chris Snelling or Shin-Soo Choo could be called up from Triple-A Tacoma to replace him.
